The Renewal Project

For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Background

Dampness, rotten window frames, boarded up windows, crumbling plaster work, draughts, sub-standard kitchen, poor toilet facilities, lack of suitable accommodation for children and adults and no disabled access – does it sound in any way familiar?

Well, in 2005, our Congregational Board decided that our buildings could not continue their downward spiral. However, to bring our hall in particular up to a reasonable standard was going to cost a fairly substantial sum of money.

Before proceeding with the repairs, we contacted the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland. Following discussions, it was decided that a feasibility study be carried out to assess the use made of our hall facilities at present and the potential use by the congregation and the community following renovation works.

Campbell Morris Associates, Architects, carried out the feasibility study and submitted their report early in 2008.

Proposals

The proposals envisage the refurbishment of the hall to provide a flexible area which could be subdivided into 3 or 4 separate meeting rooms. New toilet and kitchen facilities and a small extension to the existing hall which would provide space for a fully equipped crèche and a vestry for the minister are also included.

As a congregation, we were delighted with the proposals and the opportunity to create a facility at the centre of our community which would allow us to develop our work with children and young people, with young families for whom we have no facilities at present, and to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for the elderly in our community who support our congregation so well.

Funding

We have now launched our Renewal Project and aim to have completed the fund-raising and the work by the end of 2010.  It is a tall order but the future of our congregational activities depends on it.

Throughout the next two years, we will be holding many fundraising events to which everyone is invited (See What’s On). Our project depends on the generosity of the congregation, of the community and of many beyond who wish to support our work.

"Jolomo" Mugs

As part of our fundraising efforts we are delighted that the acclaimed Scottish artist, John Lowrie Morrison (Jolomo) has agreed to allow us to use two of his paintings, one of the Church  and one of a view of Lochgilphead as designs on bone china mugs which are for sale to raise funds for the project. The mugs are  manufactured by Dunoon Ceramics Ltd. You can download an order form here.

Donations

There are many charities and projects in need of funding but if you feel you would like to support our project financially, we would be very grateful. To make a contribution to our renewal project, please send a cheque made out to Lochgilphead Parish Church Renewal Project to our minister (See Contacts) or you can send a donation, via PayPal, using your credit card or debit card by clicking on the "Donate" button (see below). Your contribution will make a difference to our Church and community.
